
SCAC consults Bhutan Broadcasting Service
This morning, the Social and Cultural Affairs
Committee met with the Bhutan Broadcasting Service management and staff to
discuss the state of the media.
Presentations by the Chief Executive Officer, Kaka
Tshering, and the General Managers from News and Current Affairs, Radio and
Television presented an overview of their work, including challenges and
recommendations for the way forward.
Discussions on the draft broadcasting policy, BBS
status and mandates, difficulties in access to information, financial
constraints and shortage of trained personnel were highlighted.
Currently, about 300 personnel work in BBS TV and
Radio, providing round the clock services to inform and educate the Bhutanese
public in several languages.
The detailed findings will be presented by the
committee in the winter session of the National Council.
