This morning, the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee met with the Bhutan Broadcasting Service management and staff to discuss the state of the media.

Presentations by the Chief Executive Officer, Kaka Tshering, and the General Managers from News and Current Affairs, Radio and Television presented an overview of their work, including challenges and recommendations for the way forward.

Discussions on the draft broadcasting policy, BBS status and mandates, difficulties in access to information, financial constraints and shortage of trained personnel were highlighted.

Currently, about 300 personnel work in BBS TV and Radio, providing round the clock services to inform and educate the Bhutanese public in several languages.
