The Natural Resources and Environment Committee called upon the Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC) to present relevant data.

On 14th April 2025, as part of its ongoing review into the low GDP contribution from Bhutan’s forestry sector, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee of the National Council called upon the Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC) to present relevant data.

The DRC shared key insights on tax contributions, trade performance, and royalty collections from the wood-based industries. The presentation highlighted a 240% growth in wood exports from 2022 to 2024, though imports still make up 85% of trade.

Following the presentation, discussions focused on reducing import dependence and boosting domestic production and exports through sustainable forest-based industries.
