Rural Credit Access in Bhutan
The
Economic Affairs Committee (EAC) conducted stakeholder meetings with the Bhutan
Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAOWE) and Tarayana Microfinance.
The
Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) presented their core mandates, organizational
structures, and details of their loan products. Additionally, they provided
data on loans disbursed till date categorized by sectors and Dzongkhags.
The
MFIs also outlined their future plans to expand their loan products and
services. They highlighted challenges such as balancing social mandates with
profit motives, which have contributed to an increase in non-performing loans
in MFIs.
The
committee will conduct further consultation meetings with remaining MFIs and
insurance companies in the coming days.
