
Introduction and deliberation on the Review Report of Satong and Gungtong
The
second sitting of the 33rd session of the National Council commenced today with
a presentation on the review report of Satong (fallow land) and Gungtong
(empty houses) by the Good Governance Committee (GGC) followed by
deliberations.
Hon’ble Phuntsho Rapten, Chairperson of the GGC shared the report covering its background, methodology, the situation of Satong, Gungtong, net migration, and poverty in Bhutan, along with observations, the status of Satong and Gungtong in the selected areas, and recommendations. On behalf of the Committee Members, the Committee Chairperson also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) for their financial support, enabling the review study.
Tomorrow, the House will continue deliberating on the recommendations proposed by the GGC on Satong and Gungtong.
