Legislative Committee Engages with the Judges of Thimphu District Court and officials of Bhutan National Legal Institute on the Amendment of the Penal Code of Bhutan 2004.

March 14, 2025, the Legislative Committee (LC) held a stakeholder meeting with
the Judges of the Thimphu District Court and officials of the Bhutan National
Legal Institute to discuss proposed amendments to the Penal Code of Bhutan
2004.
The purpose of this meeting was to gather crucial perspectives from legal professionals, ensuring that their insights play a role in developing a more effective and equitable criminal justice system that reflects Bhutan’s changing legal landscape.
The discussions offered an essential forum for addressing the necessary amendments to the Penal Code, incorporating a wide range of viewpoints from judges, legal experts, and other experts.
These amendments will be tabled and presented during the upcoming summer session, representing a significant advancement in strengthening the legal framework.
