
Professor Iokibe Kaoru Calls on the Honorable Chairperson of the National Council.
The
Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Council warmly received Professor Iokibe
Kaoru from Japan, who is currently in Bhutan to deliver a lecture at the Royal
Institute for Governance and Strategic Studies (RIGSS). Professor Iokibe, an
eminent scholar in Japanese Political and Diplomatic History from the Graduate
Schools for Law and Politics, is on a three-day visit to Bhutan.
During the courtesy call, the Hon’ble Chairperson and Professor Iokibe engaged in a meaningful exchange of views on Bhutan’s evolving democratic landscape. The Chairperson highlighted the distinct constitutional roles and mandates of the National Council and the National Assembly, emphasizing their significance in promoting good governance and ensuring legislative oversight, as envisioned by His Majesty The King for the greater interest of the nation.
The discussion also touched upon Bhutan’s unique development philosophy, the Gross National Happiness (GNH) Index, which continues to receive global recognition, including from Japan, for its holistic approach to development and well-being.
